A lawyer for axed SARS boss Tom Moyane is set to cross-examine Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan on Monday morning, over claims the minister made about Moyane’s complicity in the state capture project.
Gordhan’s last appearance at the commission was in November 2018, when he testified about his tenure as finance minister, which coincided with Moyane’s controversial term as SARS commissioner.
Moyane was granted leave to cross-examine Gordhan in November 2019.
The minister failed to appear before the commission to be cross-examined in August this year – due to Cabinet commitments. Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, who chairs the inquiry, was furious, saying that “mere cabinet appointments” are not more important than the work of the commission.
Monday’s hearing is due to start at 10:00.
