Police are investigating after a body was discovered Thursday afternoon in northeast Edmonton.
The body was found around 4 p.m. near 78 Street and 128 Avenue in a grassy area and police remained on scene into Thursday evening examining the location.
Acting Staff Sgt. Ryan Busby said the body was located by a person who was part of a clean-up crew. He said police haven’t yet concluded whether the circumstances are suspicious and the medical examiner has been called in to asses the death.
“We have no idea yet, we are waiting on our forensic guys and girls to do their work to give us that ultimately … and for the medical examiner to give us his input,” he said.
“At this point, we’re treating it as non-suspicious, but with all the parameters and protocols in place in case it is suspicious. Once the professionals do their jobs and give us their input after they’re done their work (we will decide).”
Busby said he did not know the gender or approximate age of the deceased.
