Four Edmonton-area hospitals have outbreaks, including the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Misericordia Community Hospital, University of Alberta Hospital’s Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, and Leduc Community Hospital.
Nine more people have tested positive at Edmonton’s Royal Alexandra Hospital, for a total of 15 cases, according to data provided by Alberta Health.
Covenant Health is investigating after one patient tested positive at Grey Nuns Community Hospital.
Other new outbreaks in the Edmonton Zone on Thursday include: Extendicare Holyrood, Jasper Place Continuing Care Centre, South Terrace Continuing Care, Laurel Heights Retirement Residence, WF Steel and Crane.
Another Edmonton Catholic school has an outbreak — St. Matthew Elementary School. Two cases were reported on Friday and 62 people are in isolation.
Alberta Health considers two cases in a school to be an outbreak when others are required to self-isolate as a result.
By Friday, 111 Alberta schools had outbreaks, data from the province’s school outbreak website shows.
Fifty-one of these schools are in the city of Edmonton. Of those, 25 are on the province’s watch list, meaning there are five or more cases and the disease may have been transmitted in the school.
