Re. “It’s time for Albertans to unite against COVID,” Opinion, Dec. 5

Preston Manning’s article in Saturday’s Journal made me angry. On the surface, the call to end the divisiveness in the province is laudable and one I can certainly support. However, he goes on to call out certain groups. The UCP can arbitrarily cancel municipal charters with Edmonton and Calgary, but cities should engage in maximum co-operation.

The Opposition in the legislature should not oppose or critique government policy, but all Albertans should unite against a “hostile federal government.” The UCP can cancel agreements with doctors and signal massive job cuts to health-care workers in the midst of a pandemic but they should find time in their currently very stressful lives to end the conflict.

Perhaps we should just kiss the ring of Alberta royalty who have “ … been involved in our politics and economy for more than 85 years”.  What arrogance and hypocrisy.
